Sam Schwartz was retained by the Village of Pelham, NY to perform a traffic and safety assessment for the corridor of Wolfs Lane, Fifth Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue. Traffic volume data was collected for 16 intersections and observations were performed at 18 intersections. Our team of traffic engineers coordinated with the Village to obtain future development programs and capacity analyses were preformed for existing conditions and 2030 under different improvement scenarios.
Short-term and long-term recommendations were developed for each of the 18 study area intersections to improve the level of service, walkability, and safety. Recommendations included the installation of upgraded traffic signal infrastructure and pedestrian facilities, lane restriping, crosswalk restriping, and signage and safety improvements. As an additional part of the study, Sam Schwartz developed recommendations to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety at the intersection of Colonial Avenue, Boulevard, Ancon Avenue, and Kings Highway. A “Do Not Block the Box” striping plan was prepared using CAD in accordance with the MUTCD and the NYS Supplement to the MUTCD. The contractor implemented the plan in August 2018.
