University of Delaware Campus Master Plan
The University of Delaware’s campus master plan will act as a roadmap for the institution’s future, leveraging its history and reputation to form new partnerships and unlock ambitious academic opportunities.
As a part of a larger team led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Sam Schwartz led the development of the plan’s mobility and transportation framework. Through a series of workshops with University staff, as well as engagement with city and state officials and transportation departments, Sam Schwartz crafted innovative initiatives that align with key elements of the overall plan. To assist in the decision-making process, Sam Schwartz developed a prioritization toolkit to help stakeholders understand how and when specific strategies should be considered in light of the institution’s potential future growth.
Recommendations included the creation of a robust internal active transportation network, redesigning key intersections to protect pedestrians and bicyclists, working with city staff to balance parking needs, optimizing shuttle bus service, and developing a transportation demand management (TDM) program that promotes and sustains mobility and accessibility for all campus community members.
