Sam Schwartz was retained by the Prospect Park Alliance to prepare civil engineering plans for reducing vehicular travel and parking lane widths to implement a new protected bidirectional bicycle lane adjacent to the southeast perimeter of Prospect Park on Ocean Avenue.
The project is part of the NYCDOT Vision Zero safety initiative which will formally close vehicular access to Prospect Park at Prospect Avenue and Ocean Avenue, in conjunction with the new Shirley Chisolm monument and other streetscaping elements at the park entrance. The project includes sidewalk and roadway grading design, relocation of catch basins, bicycle facility design, pedestrian safety improvements, curb realignment and associated lane striping adjustments, and streetlight pole relocations.
