Newark Downtown Circulation Study

Sam Schwartz was retained by NJTPA and the City of Newark to determine, through data collection and analysis, the roadway improvements that will best support continued economic growth of Newark’s downtown core. Through an intensive outreach process which included input from the steering advisory committee, stakeholder group, and public, over 25 intersections for analysis were selected and potential concepts for consideration identified. An extensive transportation planning model was employed to validate these concepts. The final study included recommendations for safe and efficient movements by all users of the street, prioritizing pedestrian, bicycle, and bus access and mobility.
